| We require
electronic files to process your order. Please use either
our Send File page
or our PDF Print
driver to submit suitable files through our Web site. If you
are not a graphic designer or skilled in the techniques of
printing, consider our
PDF Print driver to easily submit basic files from any
software application.
We support the following Macintosh and PC software...
- QuarkXpress
- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe Illustrator
- Adobe PageMaker
- Adobe InDesign
- Adobe Acrobat PDF
If you are using MS Word, Publisher or any other software
package, consider our
PDF Print driver. This application streamlines the pre-press
process and allows you to print directly from your computer,
in the correct format, to our pre-press server. For more information
on this process, please visit our
PDF Print driver page.
Although we try and eliminate all problems before printing,
your assistance reviewing and complying with the following checklist
will help eliminate any problems. Additionally, we charge $80
per hour to correct files. 1) Are ALL Fonts Provided?
- All printer and screen fonts in job are included (including
the fonts in placed EPS files). Please include common fonts
such as Helvetica, Times, etc. Failure to provide all fonts
will slow down your production. Please compress all fonts
before sending in a program such as Stuffit or WinZip.
2) Are ALL Original Files Provided?
- We occasionally encounter file problems that we can fix
for you; however, we cannot fix your files if you don’t
send them in an editable format. For example, if you embed
a .tiff in an Illustrator file, we cannot manipulate the
.tiff in any way. These situations cause your production
to be delayed while we wait for you to fix and resend files.
- Graphics in PageMaker jobs are linked and supplied to
us, not saved in document. • Resolution of placed EPS’s
set to at least 300 dpi.
- Only files needed for this job are included and are clearly
marked (remove all excess pages from document).
- All graphics (TIFF, EPS, etc.) used in job are included.
- Scanned images used in this document and those nested
within placed EPS files have been cropped, resized and saved
for each usage at the right resolution (i.e they are not
a small part of a large image).
- All Quark picture boxes containing TIFF or EPS images
have backgrounds other than a setting of ‘none’
except where clipping paths are used.
- Screens in PhotoShop have been set to Printer’s
Default.
- Bleeds extend off the page at least 1/8 inch.
- Unless there is good reason to do otherwise, set your
document to the actual trim size in the Document Setup dialogue
of your program. Have all bleed elements project off the
page area the appropriate bleed amount.
3) Are ALL Images Colored Correctly?
- Have you referenced Pantone books for colors selected
in your document?
Remember, computer screens are not printed paper. Do not
rely on your computer
monitor to display accurate color. Our final printed products
will match Pantone PMS and
color build books.
- All RGB color files are converted to CMYK format.
- Large areas of black use a ‘rich black’ of
40C-20M-40Y-100K.
- Color palettes in job files & EPS files have all
unused colors removed.
- If job is CMYK – All Spot colors used in job are
set to process separate and any duotone, tritone or quadtone
images are converted to CMYK format in the original application.
- Spot colors used in EPS files and in the document have
identical naming conventions (i.e. Pantone 185 CV = Pantone
185 CV, not Pantone 185 CVC).
4) Are Laser Separations Provided?
- Color separations have been printed, checked and are correct,
and are supplied to us.
- Important: Unless you do not have access to a Postscript
printer it is important that
you print your job as separations to your printer. Simply
printing as a composite file does not reveal non-CMYK
images, overprint/trap problems, having misnamed colors
or more than one plate (eg: Red, plus Pantone 185) that
you intend to have print as one plate.
NOTE: To ensure proper sizing and positioning of
copy, please download the corresponding template to work from.
